The infinity norm bound for the inverse of nonsingular diagonal dominant matrices

چکیده
In this note, we bound the inverse of nonsingular diagonal dominant matrices under the infinity norm. This bound is always sharper than the one in [P.N. Shivakumar, et al., On two-sided bounds related to weakly diagonally dominant M-matrices with application to digital dynamics, SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl. 17 (2) (1996) 298–312]. c © 2008 Published by Elsevier Ltd

Perturbation bounds for $g$-inverses with respect to the unitarily invariant norm
Let complex matrices $A$ and $B$ have the same sizes. Using the singular value decomposition, we characterize the $g$-inverse $B^{(1)}$ of $B$ such that the distance between a given $g$-inverse of $A$ and the set of all $g$-inverses of the matrix $B$ reaches minimum under the unitarily invariant norm. With this result, we derive additive and multiplicative perturbation bounds of the nearest per...
متن کاملTight bounds on the infinity norm of inverses of symmetric diagonally dominant positive matrices
We prove tight bounds for the ∞-norm of the inverse of symmetric diagonally dominant positive matrices. Applications include numerical stability for linear systems, bounds on inverses of differentiable functions, and the consistency of maximum entropy graph distributions from single samples.
متن کاملBounds on determinants of perturbed diagonal matrices
We give upper and lower bounds on the determinant of a perturbation of the identity matrix or, more generally, a perturbation of a nonsingular diagonal matrix. The matrices considered are, in general, diagonally dominant. The lower bounds are best possible, and in several cases they are stronger than well-known bounds due to Ostrowski and other authors. If A = I−E is a real n×n matrix and the e...

THE CLASS OF INVERSE M-MATRICES ASSOCIATED TO RANDOM WALKS∗ CLAUDE DELLACHERIE† , SERVET MARTINEZ‡ , AND JAIME SAN MARTIN‡ Abstract. Given W = M−1, with M a tridiagonal M -matrix, we show that there are two diagonal matrices D,E and two nonsingular ultrametric matrices U, V such that DWE is the Hadamard product of U and V . If M is symmetric and row diagonally dominant, we can take D = E = I. W...
متن کاملMatrix inversion and digraphs: the one factor case
The novel concept of a cyclic sequence of a digraph that has precisely one factor is defined, and is used to characterize the entries of the inverse of a matrix with such a digraph. This leads to a characterization of a strongly sign-nonsingular matrix in terms of cyclic sequences. Nonsingular nearly reducible matrices are a well-known class of matrices having precisely one nonzero diagonal, an...
